A LITTLE ABOUT ME & WHY I STARTED CUSTOM-FIT GOLF

 After leaving school, I started an apprenticeship as an electrician.

Once I completed my apprenticeship, I joined the army as an infantry soldier. There, I learned self respect, self pride, the ability to analyse a problem and find a solution.

When I left the military, I started my own business as an electrician. I picked up many other skills, like plastering, plumbing, tiling, carpentry and general building.

I took to the game of golf quite late (2019), and I became interested in the principles of ball flight and the physics that surround it.

Why I Become a Club Maker?

After having a couple of club fittings, I began to realise that club fitting was outdated and very generic.
Being bigger than average (at 6ft 3in), I don’t fit into the standard shaft length and on both clubs fittings, I wasn’t able to try a longer length club.

In addition, my grip was given to me through a measurement and my lie angle was done via a ‘rule of thumb.’
My first coach always mentioned how everyone is different and you cant follow the book, word for word, but always said how important club fitting is.

What I have learned?

I found an advanced club fitting course and started enhancing what I learnt by discussing what I’d discovered with my golfing friends.

I quickly established that VERY few golfers are fitted with clubs, specifically for them. I spent a couple of years trialling new theories out on myself and fitted my own clubs.

It’s only through a process of trial and error that I realised I could help many golfers play better golf,
as well as hoping to change the way golfers think about buying clubs. Most golfers buy on the name, rather than the fit.

What Training Did I Have?

There is no formal qualification in golf clubmaking but doing an advanced course with a recognised club maker/supplier is all you can do. After much research, I chose to follow the Tom Wishon school of clubmaking.

Wishon’s expertly engineered designs are exclusively for clubfitters and clubmakers – so they can really be custom-fit to you and your swing.

The difference between the off-the-shelf clubs and the precision mounted, custom-fit golf clubs you will get from a Wishon clubmaker is unparelled (in my humble opinion).
